Run a tight ship, take the helm, change tack or course, all hands on deck: leadership and the language of sailing have much in common. Sailing allows one to see exactly what is going on within a team. Who takes the lead? Who sails close to the wind? Who steadfastly maintains course?

In a single day you learn to go with the flow – of the water and with each other. We start with two hours of training in which we talk about what is going on within the team. After lunch aboard, we cast off. Observing how a team sails can give one an insight into how that team functions. That’s what I do. Honestly, decisively, respectfully and enthusiastically. My years of experience as a leader, trainer and sailor are my compass.
